I work for a local company now and have been driving 8 years. I’ve been with my company for 3 years now. I recently had an incident where I was driving in traffic and had an accident. I was in the right lane and there was traffic coming on from the ramp. I let a car go and continued on. There was another car though which I would have had to lean forward to see in the right fender mirror. I didn’t do that. I didn’t know he was there and never felt him when he bounced off my bumper several times. The truck camera knew he was there though and caught everything. Turns out he was coasting along side of me until he ran out of shoulder and never took the openings to merge in front of me. The accident was determined to be his fault and he was ticketed but my company gave me a preventable. Before I was able to view the video I submitted an appeal. My company’s position is blind spot excuses are not acceptable. I spoke with my safety department, was chastised and then told if I didn’t withdraw my appeal he was going to HR. I asked him directly if he just threatened my job and he said I don’t hire and fire but I will take this to HR. I withdrew my appeal. I then was sent the video. The video looks like I was deliberately using my truck to squeeze this car into the wall however I would think after 3 years my company would know I would never behave so aggressively and viciously. I have, well had, a good safety record and have always been honest about everything but the video is damning evidence against me. I don’t want to lose my job so I just have to accept my consequences at this point but what would you do?
