I’m currently working in Alberta oil fields as a swamper on a vac truck. My company said once I get my class 1 (they want me to get my class 3 first and upgrade later but I really don’t want to do that) but I’d be able to drive class 3 vac trucks for a year or 2 and then eventually get to drive tanker and semi vac. I’m looking at getting my class 1 and finding a place that drives year round and not slowing down for winter.
I’m thinking of hauling frac sand, I’d prefer to not go to a mega, mostly because I do not want to drive an auto but would consider it if they run manual trucks. I was also considering dump truck or belly dump but I’m not to sure how busy they are in winter? A lot of these places I’m looking even for jobs people say “oh they’ll literally hire anybody” and I look at jobs in my area and they want minimum 3 years, preferred 5 years.
Mainly I want a job that drives all day, which I know is pretty common in most types of trucking but it’s not what I’ll get where I am now. Also recommendations on trucking types and if your in or around Alberta, neighbouring provinces some company names would be helpful too, thanks
