I’m new to trucking. Went through school and training for a couple months. Been on my own for a month in a half. The company pays me 23 percent of whatever the load is worth. I took a load from Michigan to Boston last week. 1000 miles. Paid 780 bucks. Not bad. I was happy. they gave me a backhaul brokered load. Went from Lancaster, MA to West Dundee , IL. 988 miles. Paid 240 dollars. I was so upset this week. I made 1130 dollars for 2800 miles total. That includes a load I brought back from Chicago to our yard in southwest Michigan . But hey at least I made the weekly guarantee the company offers. 1200. Minus taxes and benefits. 890 dollars is my weekly average. This doesn’t feel worth it. I’ve sacrificed every aspect of my life for this now. Don’t see friends or family anymore. Gave up my favorite hobbies. And I’m making 890 dollars every week. Is it my company or the freight market ? Trucking is great , but the pay is horrible. Granted I’m new. I enjoyed every minute of it up until today. After finding out I drove 988 miles for 240 dollars. Could you imagine driving a semi 1000 miles just for someone to hand you 2 $100 bills and two $20s.
