Question on social media I saw earlier.
My response.
There used to be these things called “sit down restaurants” inside truck stops.
They offered breakfast all day for those night drivers, really good burgers and meatloaf…. They’d even have soup that was halfway decent.
Drivers would sit around a tiny U shaped bar like area with stools and coffee with their hats sitting next to keys and wallets.
Everyone would be talking, laughing, sharing stories, tips, tricks and advice.
People drank coffee tea or soda, ate a good meal with good company and the time flew.
Now, because of corporate greed they took these restraunts out and gave them over to fast food places like McDonald’s, Popeyes chicken or filled them with trashy souvenirs and “gift shops” that contain the same 12 glass figurines that you see everywhere else.
There are so many memories I had of sitting around a bar bullshitting with other drivers. They were my brothers and sisters, my coworkers, friends, and some even turned into family over the years.
I shared my stories. My advice, tips, tricks and even though 10yrs is not a lot, I still had better wisdom than some, so I shared that too.
As a woman it made me feel included, protected and respected.
These days you’re lucky if you can have a laugh over something funny while waiting for chicken nuggets.
