I’ve been doing this for 3 years now and there’s just nothing I’ll ever do besides this. There’s nothing like waking up at 4:00 in the morning and just getting down the road and getting paid to do it.
Most of the headaches with this job come from working for bad companies, hauling bad freight, making shit money.
Now I get paid by the hour every time the truck isn’t moving, so I no longer have any stress at all. It’s just me and the road. Oh, a blown tire? 4 hours for repairs? No big deal. Paid for every hour. It causes me to be late and have to wait till the next day to get unloaded? No problem, paid by the hour. No load for 3 days? No problem, paid by the hour and paid hotels.
I found that most of my stress had to do with Small things adding up lots and lots of time and never getting paid for all those little things. I’d end up stressing out over everything. Now, I stress over almost nothing and I get to enjoy the good parts of driving over the road and I’ve minimized just about all of the bad parts.
TLDR: find a job that pays hourly for OTR. It’s awesome.
