I have been pulling mostly dry van and reefer at a local company for about a year. They have a farming side of the business that I’ve recently been tasked with, mostly hauling grain trailers to and from fields. During late summer / early fall I had few issues, other than getting comfortable backing into unmarked grass “lanes” off of dark, narrow country roads. Now that winter is close, the freeze / thaw cycle makes those same lanes often rather soft. Most of the time I can just look and walk around, and know it’s a bad idea to pull off the road. However right now I am currently stuck, after I was sure the ground had frozen enough. My question is, is there a reliable way to know when a grass lane is frozen enough to drive on?
