Only drove trucks for a bit under a year. While I loved doing it and was great at it, problems with dispatch and workmans compensation not working out for a broken foot I got on the job meant I wasn’t able to do it anymore (however I am keeping the CDL and plan on returning in the future). It even took me a good week or 2 to stop out trying to push in my air brake valves out of habit.
Today at work, one of the service advisors scolded one of the lube technicians for swearing so much, even in front of customers. His response was “I’m a truckers son”. I told him that I was a trucker and even though I swear a lot, I don’t do it in front of customers. He said “You aren’t a real trucker until you’ve been doing it for 10+ years”. This guy is sort of known as the shop idiot, so we all laughed at his response.
Anyways, what are some of the funny/idiotic moments you have had/heard about what a “real” trucker is?
