So this question is for Canadian drivers, more specifically Ontario guys.
I typically run at night and mostly on rural 2-lane undivided highways, which means I see plenty of wildlife along my travels.
I’ve been lucky in that in 24 years of driving experience, (6 of those driving big rig), I’ve never actually hit a deer… yet. I’ve had few close calls, but it’s only a matter of time until I do “clack” one.
I’ve also come to think… I have no idea what I’m actually supposed to do if and when I do hit a deer, or other large animal.
After I pull over and check the truck for damage, am I supposed to call someone to report the hit? Is it an OPP thing? an MTO thing because it involved a CMV? A game warden? If there’s no damage to my truck, is it considered a hit and run if I just take off?
