I’m currently down at the Nashville terminal for orientation at Western. During some of the onboarding safety/policy videos, they had you sign stating you understood the terms of employment (such as not moving on routes with low clearance bridges; not pulling off on the side of the road unless you experience a serious medical issue, police pull you over, or unpreventable mechanical failure like a fire or the engine dying to not become a ‘sitting duck;’ and various other company policies). On most of these videos, you could go over the terms with a fine toothed comb with the text beneath them prior to your signature, but on one in particular, whenever you’d try to zoom in on the text it would not render. Well, they pulled one over on me and now I guess I’m on contract with them for 6 months.
I’m currently placed on medical hold for sleep study related reasons from over two years ago. I reached out to the administering physician and they ‘don’t have the records on file,’ and passed the buck onto the company that made the equipment I used in the test since the physician is no longer partnered with the equipment producers. No luck, they said the physician is the only person that would have the records, so now I’m in limbo trying to track down where said results are.
My recruiter just contacted me saying they’d be sending me home to resolve the issue, and then they’d get me back in Nashville once I sort things out. Since my medical hasn’t cleared (even though I have an unexpired, perfectly good medical card AND long form they chose not to use for whatever reason and insisted I go through with their medical screening process) and I haven’t even taken a road test, let alone finished day 2 of training, nor been assigned a truck or trainer, what’re the odds I can jump ship unscathed? How do I get out of this as painlessly as possible?
I’m apparently liable for $2500 if I leave the company prior to the 6 months for leaving with ‘valuable company knowledge’ and with all the horror stories I’ve read and seen prior to getting finessed by a recruiter, I’m kinda over it. Thanks in advance, curious if anyone else has a similar experience with Western.
