I’m gonna give ya the low down on my situation, and I’m gonna ask you to tear it to pieces. I’ll tell you a little about me and a little about where I’m at…from there we move forward.
Mid40s, recent grad. CDL A, Hazmat, Tanker (X) Doubles Triples endorsement.
Absolutely zero 18 wheeler experience besides school. 2 years driving and VCing a Stryker in the Army, honorably discharged. Zero felonies, was once charged with a DUI 5+ years ago which was dismissed with prejudice (Stayed on MVR because, fuck Washington- long story short, don’t mouth off at a cop if you’re sleeping it off in a car.)
Otherwise literally 0 points on my license, EVER.
Been self employed since 2005 so no employer history, got out of carpentry after my back injuries from the service finally caught up with me pretty bad. Found a new career choice in trucking.
Anyhow, financed my own way through school and finished that. Yes, I’ve read the internet and I know about WE, but check this, the terminal is about 15 miles from my house. I mean to use them as a foot in the door ONLY.
So I’m finishing up my flatbed training and orientation and then I’m gonna wait on a trainer it seems. I’m not in a hotel, I didn’t travel to get here. I’m at home and can walk away at any moment. I really don’t mind the place and everyone has been really nice. But I’m not stupid, so I’m already planning my escape in 3 months. The low pay won’t kill me for a while, and all my affairs are in order.
So here’s my question for Reddit, how would you plan your escape after 3 months if you were in my position?
