Hey guys, looking for some advice. I’m kinda at wits end and thinking I may never be able to use my cdl again. To start I lost my job with Swift back in January. (Yes yes I know terrible company) got my cdl through them, did my mentorship, went to top gun, the whole nine yards. I had no issues, no backing accidents, no tickets, no warnings, I was always safe, on time and professional. Well I was headed deadhead back to the terminal in SLC from a shirt haul in Idaho. The roads and weather were actually nice for once. Clear and no snow on the roads. It was around 2 am. I was coming through Tremonton UT. And I noticed a small patch of black ice ahead and started slowing down. According to the records 37mph. Unfortunately I still slid off the road and did a complete 180 into the ditch. Tore up the bumper a bit but that was the only damage. Cop stopped and made sure I was okay and called a tow truck. The state trooper however was an ass (that’s another story in itself, even the tow driver called their office the next day) anyway, he pulled me out and I was able to drive the rest of the way. (Obviously I had already called the incident hotline with swift etc etc) I make it home and they tell me they have to review everything and that I need to go home and wait for them to call me. A week goes by and I finally call my DL, and he tells me I’m fired because safety claimed it a “Preventable” and to come clean out my truck. (Also I went to clean out my truck and they had already cleaned it out 3 days before hand and first told me all my stuff was in the dumpster, being absolutely livid I told them I was suing and they magically found my stuff in storage)
So here’s the sticky part. I was giving no ticket, no marks on my CSA, my record is still clean. It’s been 3 months and no ther company will hire me. I keep getting “we need 6 months – 2 years of safe driving with a tractor trailer” from every company I’ve applied for. Because they call swift and asked what i was let go for. Even the supposed second chance companies. I was told by one guy it’s a Insurance issue. But how the hell am I supposed to get that safety driving if no company will freaking hire me?? Trucking was my dream job and now I just want to throw my cdl in the trash. You guys got any advice?
