Just got my CDL and living in probably the worst state to get into transportation Florida and being as far southwest as you can get (besides the keys) there are hardly any options for companies to go to. Iv tried all the major carriers CFI, Swift, Wiener wagon, western express, etc… I’m outside of all their hiring zones. Most stop around Orlando/Tampa which is only 2 hours from me. Tried to get them into letting me keep the truck up there in their “zones” and ill just drive back and forth during my days off, but no go. Also, offered me relocating but they wouldn’t even offer me that. Any local companies here all want 2+ years.
So I came across Transam. Reviews say stay away. There is a 2 week orientation with some yard backing but no OTR training. After the 2 weeks they throw you in a truck solo. Not a big deal I’m pretty confident in my abilities but it would nice to have a trainer for a couple weeks. Pay is atrocious starting at $0.31 for the first 3 months then $0.40 and so on. But I’m going for experience over pay just to get my foot in the door.
Anyone have experience with this company? Or maybe some other suggestion? I would only be looking to get 3, 6, or 12 months in whatever a local company here will take.
