I’m a Yellow driver (reddaway)
so here’s the deal.
yrc blew through 700 million in bailout money for COVID however because everyone was ordering their shit online and having it delivered COVID really did not affect us negatively as other businesses.
yrc has been shoving this one yellow business plan down our throats as drivers when phase one categorically cost the company millions and continues to cost them.
drivers have had their runs severely cut in mileage and in scope. People would normally have 400-480 mile runs regularly and some drivers like my self had 540 mile runs making really good money. We now have a bunch of little turn runs that are grand total 320-400 miles which if you do our mileage pay math it completely sucks In pay.
only certain terminals namely the yrc terminals just so happen to keep and take the very good bids while the reddaway terminals were absolutely gutted of any meaningful runs.
yrc resorted to purchasing transport(Schindler, Wilson, etc) to cut union workers out of work. When they were caught over purchasing outside carriers they had to pay a penalty to drivers for their cheating of employees. However they only Payed the yrc drivers not the reddaway, holland, new pen drivers because we were not a part of yrc. Basically we are one yellow pen boy when it’s convenient for them.
the new contract yrc wants is one where line drivers will be forced to unload and load trailers after their run. This cuts full time dock workers out. They also want to be able to make drivers waiting for their loads to be made to hook other drivers sets which cuts out yard drivers.
meanwhile drivers will not be expexiting a pay raise although inflation has been a bitch and they don’t want to keep our pay in line with inflation.
overall management blames the union for their inability to run the business properly.
for example i drove 500 miles to move a container 120 miles to another terminal only to take empty trailers back home for another 380.
