*update there are tax exemptions for regional and otr truck drivers, I called the Missouri tax office and it seems an error has occurred and all they needed from me was a typed email explaining that I never resided in Missouri, they told me worst case scenario now I just need to provide proof of Florida residency during said time*
I’ve always lived in Florida. And never moved outside of said state. During the years of 2018-2021 I was an otr truck driver for CFI out of Joplin Missouri. I’m now receiving mail from the Missouri’s department of revenue trying to make me pay state taxes for 2019… a 419$ penalty and a 206$ interest totaling a 2301$ payment, I never have lived in Missouri. I have had a few packages shipped there to my employer as it was easier to pick them up there than going back to Florida from time to time but that is it. What the actual fuck do I do here to resolve it.
*update this federal law is all i should need to show anyone that you only need to pay for your home state if you are an over the road truck driver that travels in-between more than 2 states*
*The rules for an employee truck driver are fairly simple. Under 49 U.S.C. § 14503, a truck driver who is an employee who regularly drives in 2 or more states is only subject to income taxes in his home state.*
