So I worked for swift for 3 years. I made a mistake I did something very stupid and they could have fucked me hard. Not only did they choose to just be like meh a dude high up in safety called me today after getting fired days ago and was like I want to ask you some questions and I’ll let you know what I’m going to do for ya if you are honest with me.
So I asked the question days ago on another account about what happens when you test positive for a dot drug and alcohol test.
I drank in the truck, like a lot, I didn’t plug in my phone so it died and I missed calls from the company while sleeping off my hangover. They eventually called the truck stop had someone do a wellness check I heard bang bang bang, hey your dispatchers are worried call them back. I obviously reeked of alcohol so they called swift and said hey you have a driver in a truck who is reeking of alcohol. A few hours later still trying to sleep off my hangover I heard bang bang bang again, I was like that’s it I’m done that’s either cops or employees from swift like I’m fucked.
It was employees from swift, dude told me I’m a manager here’s what’s up and here’s why we are here. I was like yup I fucked up I’ll blow into the breathalyzer and then you can take me for a dot drug and alcohol test I made my choices, poor choices, so it’s I’m not going to be difficult I’m going to own it. Obviously got terminated, dot drug and alcohol test I blew a 0.027 then a 0.025.
I was hundreds of miles from home they paid for my hotel room gave me a ride to my truck the next morning so I could clean it out.
Now I was thinking I’m fucked I tested positive for a dot drug and alcohol test. A higher up for security and safety at swift called me today and was like hey man I’m here to help you understand what’s going on, I’m going to ask you questions be honest and I’ll try and help you out with everything. So I was honest with him didn’t try to white wash what I did and at the end of our talk he told me I used to be a DUI officer I’ve been doing this for swift for 10 years I don’t want to fuck you over so we won’t report your results to the FMCSA or clearing house, I was the dude who decided to send employees to your truck vs the cops. I was like yup you could have fucked me if you wanted to huh, he was like yup but I decided not to because you’ve worked for us for years and you were chill with the employees I sent to your truck. So thank fucking god swift was chill as shit and didn’t decide to fuck me over a bad decision, even my dispatcher was like hey man I wish you the best going forward I can’t believe this happened. I was like brother I made my own choices it’s not your fault. But dam I could have had shit reported to the clearing house and FMCSA but swift was like we ain’t going to do that to you.
And now I’ve applied to a bunch of oilfield jobs, and some regional jobs for smaller carriers and won’t make a stupid decision like that again lol. Next time I decide to get shit faced over the road I’ll get myself a cheap motel room.
