Im going to be moving to florida for my wife soon (her family moved there and my family is barley in our lives)
The plan right now is to go OTR for prime inc. (Also suggestions on this company? They treated my cousin very well for the last 7 years till he came off the road for a killer crude oil job..but i know there on the lower end of pay now adays.. this is because they have nice equipment and will allow my wife, dog, and cat along)
The plan is to go OTR and basically live on the truck for around a year so we can get our debts paid off and buy a nice house (probably in florida for reasons mentioned, she doesnt wanna be stuck in a state away from family while im on the road)
If i can find something florida based her family has offered to us to live in an RV converted bus till we get on our feet.. (OTR, regional, LTL i dont care.. equipment hauling could be fun tho and is an achievement i want (have lifetime of experience helping my dad move equipment for an ex-family construction company/farming company and helped him move rental equipment after he got divorced 1st time i drove truck i was 8 in a 1980somethin 379 with a 13 speed and and a KW T600 with 18spd i caught onto floating right away and its in my blood since..)
Im at a year and 6 months having my CDL with a year and 3 months verifiable experience.. 1st job was local mail movement 5-6 days a week 11-14 hr shifts with them constantly trying to get me to do 18-22 hr shifts trying to pull one over on me because i was a new CDL holder.. they started treating me like shit and jipping my pay because i refused to brake federal driving time laws..and at 3 months exact i move to a regonal startup doing mostly local 6 days a week with a few weekly trips (multiple western states) and eventually they started treating me like shit and blaming me for equipment failures (they refused to fix trucks because they were selling them soon and getting new ones for the startup.. you have all actually seen another driver post a pic of one.. (quad truck, quad axle dryvan)) and im in good leu with that company because they keep calling almost daily trying to get me back.. but ill be in the lowest tier of pay with no option to make what i was at the startup agreement because i left and the startup drivers have a “ghost tier” that no newer drivers can get..
Anyway i appreciate any feedback.. this sub has been my favorite.. im just stuck in a rut not knowing what to do and what route to go.. the next company i go for i want to be a good one because as i said i plan to basically live in the truck with some hometime between utah and florida so we can slowly move what we need to florida..
