Started school with Manual ended up in Automatic.

Basically my last job paid for me to go to 160 Driving Academy no strings attached and after the first week of manual and alot of yelling from my instructor for grinding gears and not finding a gear when going up a highway. I decided to quit but not before just going for the Automatic on my final and 3rd week there. I keep hearing they going away with the Manuals but what ive seen is that jobs in the Construction and Oil field industry mostly do Manual so now im wanting to get that restriction off but i sure do not want to haul a 53ft on test site. Am i able to road test just with the tractor?
