Standard or Automatic?

I’ll be taking my training in a few months. I read somewhere that 80% of all trucks on the road are automatics. That might just be in Canada where I am.

What’s your opinion on this? If most semi trucks are automatic, should I still train on a standard, which I assume, will be more difficult to master?

When it comes to regular cars, I love driving a standard, but I have to assume it’s much harder on a huge tractor unit.

Is one more safe over the other?
