Hey all.
So I’m getting sick of working so some rich dude’s kid can buy another Maserati. I’ve been looking for a non trucking exit strategy, but when all you have is a high school diploma, a CDL and you’re not good at classroom learning, the options are limited.
So I’ve been pondering going the O/O Hotshot route. I see a decent amount of company owned hs rigs around but very few that look like they’re a standalone trucking business.
I think I’d have to use some kind of loadboard, at least to start, to find loads, as opposed to signing on with an established trucking company. I can’t find any boards that will let me see anything without paying for a subscription though. So researching what’s available for work around me is difficult. Maybe there’s something out there I just havnt found yet?
Another thought I had, to be more versatile, was to get escort certification as well. It would open up some more work options for sure, but I’m not quite sure if running both services with one truck is really a good plan either.
Basically, I’m just looking for some input on how feasible running my own Hotshot outfit would be. If anyone has info specifically for the Hamilton/Toronto/Niagara, Ontario area, that’d be even more helpful. I’m not looking to go buy a rig after work if someone says “go for it” but I’d appreciate any info/insight on whether or not this is worth pursuing.
TIA
