So quick background: I got my Class B in Illinois 4 years ago when I got a school bus driver job. I loved it but then I moved to Nevada last year, tried to take on another school bus job but it went so badly that I more or less quit the whole profession and just recently moved back to Illinois. Basically starting my life over now and looking for a more cushy office job.
Since I’ve moved back to Illinois I need to switch my license over and from what I understand, the bare minimum is: Bring all your identification, do a vision test, do a written test, good to go. But that’s just for a regular Class D license. I cannot for the life of me figure out if there’s anything extra with transferring a CDL to Illinois.
It’s also a matter of if I even want to keep my CDL status. Again, I don’t think I really have an interest in pursuing another driving job, and I’ve never had to do my own upkeep on my endorsements cause the bus company I worked with took care of all that. If I don’t actually use my CDL, I worry it’ll be more effort than it’s worth it to keep it.
Anyone have some insight on this? Should I just go back to having a regular license or is it not that big a deal to keep my CDL with no driver job?
