I just started truck driving this year and I have lived in FL most of my life. I have pretty limited experience with driving a 4 wheeler in snowy/icy conditions and to be honest it scares me a bit. Things that may seem like common sense to people with experience might not be as immediately obvious to me.
I am currently based out of FL and stay mostly mid to east coast, but I go as far north as Wisconsin. I work for a smaller company that is pretty big on safety, we do not carry chains and are told if it’s bad enough to chain to wait for the roads to be cleared up. They will not push me to do anything unsafe for the sake of appointment times.
Does anyone have any tips on how to stay safe, things to look out for? Any differences in staying comfortable in the truck? I know you’re not supposed to engine brake in the rain so I would assume not too in the snow/slush too. Any advice is appreciated.
