As you may have noticed the repost spam has been pretty hot and heavy the last few weeks here. We try to get to it when we can but as you can imagine I and the other mods have *actual* trucking jobs and some stuff just seems to sneak under the radar at times.
In case you don’t know repost bot spam is basically its own sub-category of spam where people set up bot accounts that repost several week, or several month old posts and comments over again. They copy and paste the exact image and text that the original user used (with maybe a spelling alteration if any), and post it hoping nobody realizes it’s just a stolen repost.
There are a few reasons to do this but the main one is typically to build a library of bot accounts with high karma numbers on the site to gain clout or even sell them for irl money to people who want a high karma reddit account to themselves. This isn’t (technically) allowed on reddit, and if a user receives many reports on different subs the admins can step in to ban the account itself.

These accounts run roughshod all over the site and as you can see it is posting with very little time in between. The big giveaway generally is that they never really post in the same sub more than once or twice. The second being that most of their link posts are all reposts from a few months ago, regardless of sub.
Please use the report button if you suspect someone (or some*thing*) is reposting someone else’s OC. Posting a viral video from 2 years ago because it’s the first time you’ve seen it is generally allowed, but we take it case by case. You will not be banned for a simple mistake, and we actually get way more spam than you think. Your reporting helps.
