Ok I got a doozy for yall that love giving out advice. I’m 18, soon to be 19, and got my CDL-A back in May. Since then I have acquired tankers, doubles, triples, and an incident management tow operator license. I’ve been working at my current company for 2.5 years doing inventory, loading and unloading semi trucks, and helping rebuild trucks. I currently am at a dealer that also sells parts, so I’ve spent countless hours learning makes and models of all parts from the front bumper to the rear taillights of the trailer. Recently, I was told I would get to start driving more, and for a few weeks I was pulling a Landoll traveling axle trailer, as well as a class 8 wrecker full time, but then soon as a run was more than 150 miles I was off it. I want to be driving more, and yes I know of insurance being a problem as well as the intrastate restriction and lack of driving experience. Now, I’m barely even going on local runs. I didn’t do anything that I’m aware of, outside of wanting to learn how to drive more, and I suppose that’s inconvenient for my boss since I entirely run inventory by myself. I’m not being paid anywhere near what I should be either, 10 per hour, among other things which I’m not going to mention because of potentially incriminating myself or someone else. I’ve attempted to look for other jobs around, but everybody says the same 3 things, insurance won’t let us, you’ve never driven, company policy requires age. I should also say, and most people will say this, but I am not your average 18 year old who wants to drive. I truly enjoy this industry and have a love and pretty vast knowledge of classic and new trucks. All in all how should I go about attempting to advance my career?
