Here’s my question/situation: I currently have a class B CDL with the no airbrake restriction in Mississippi that expires December 2024(I’v driven a school bus since 2019 that does not require it). I just passed my hazmat and tanker endorsement to drive a propane truck last week and I was attempting to try and get the airbrake restriction removed as well. DMV is telling me that since it’s been since 2019, that I have to retake the general knowledge test and airbrake endorsement to get a permit. After 14 days I will be able to take the airbrake test on a commercial vehicle at the dmv to get my cdl that allows airbrakes. Does this sound right? My CDL expires December 2024 and I can not apply to renew my cdl until this summer (6 months before my current cdl expires). I feel like that by trying to remove the no airbrakes restrictions and getting a learners permit for airbrakes that i will not be allowed to drive the school bus while I’m holding the learners permit, and why should I have to retake the general knowledge? Is it just me or does it sound like the dmv is screwing me over.?
