Question about trucking with a felony record.

Hey guys quick question for those of you with felony records. I’ve been applying to several companies with CDL training programs that are supposedly felony friendly. I’m running out of options fairly quickly and was wondering if it would make more sense to get my training at a CDL school on my own dime and apply at companies without training programs, or wait a few more years for my conviction to get older. My crime was a non violent felony and had nothing to do with operating a personal or commercial motor vehicle. The conviction occurred 3 years ago almost exactly.
