Hello everyone, here is my situation.
This was back in March 2022, when I was 23, I started driving box trucks for a moving company from 2021 to 2022 just using my basic class C drivers license.
1. This company did out of state jobs as well. They offered me to go on a few trips out of CA. I ran with it, and started loving driving and the “trucking” life style with beautiful some views to see on the trips.
2. Fast forward, they asked me go out again and I said yes, but this time I decided to take some weed with me as I used to consumed it daily, yes call me an idiot all you want, I was going through some rough time and it would help me relax and sleep well after long shifts or offloading a full box truck with 1 or 2 helpers.
3. I was stopped at the port of entry in Arizona on my way back to California, the truck was empty and obviously they confiscated my weed.
4. But here is the thing, they did not issued me any tickets nor was I arrested, nor did the officer asked me to show to court, but was only put out of service for 24 hours due to the truck missing a lot of paper work and permits that I wasn’t aware of.
5. I had only done 4-5 trips with this company and never had to present any paper work before, plus I was very new with the out of state trips. (this was a company ran by some Russians guys that were very sketchy, even with their weight/sqft).
6. So, it’s been almost 2 years since this happened, and I want to give another try to the “trucking lifestyle” as it seems to be a great job with a lot of opportunities. But this time doing it the right way by getting my CDL and focusing on staying on the right path as I been sober for almost 3-4 months.
7. I called the DoT in Arizona a few days ago, and I explained to the person my situation and he confirmed to me that I should not be worried since I was not issue a citation nor was I arrested, but they did gave me a “Driver Examination Report” where it stated that the truck was missing paperwork and I was on possession of Marijuana, but the DoT employee said that this only stays in my records for 3 years.
8. I’m currently employed and work as help desk in an IT Company, were I was given the opportunity to learn, but they are starting to ask for certs, and these will take me some time to obtain, so I thought about going to CDL school instead if it were to be possible.
9. Will this affect me in anyway down the road? or getting my CDL? as I thought I would never be able to be a truck driver again. If you have been in a similar situation or know more information that can help me understand better, please let me know as I been trying to research online but couldn’t find much, thank you.
