I started driving cat 1 / CDL A yesterday on my own and my first job was shit. Flatbed trailer with a whole load of steel rods, a mix of steel angles both loose and in bags, and no straps provided.
Took me about 2 hours to figure out how to strap the first bit against the bulkhead using 5 ratchets and straps I had provided in the truck for emergency.
Then I had to fucking ask lazy arse loader for more straps and he didn’t give a shit… Said none available. I said so what do you want me to do? Drive a load of steel unstrapped, unsafe, all the way to fucking Romsey from here doing 59mph? He then suggested to go back to the contractor to ask for more.
I did and got an extra 7. From 9:00 to 14:00 I was doing nothing but climbing up and down this flatbed and walking across all the steel strapping down everything.
I was also told by my boss to make sure everything is as tight as fuck, which I did, and gave myself guts ache, aching back, aching arms, and I got some sort of reflux feeling in my throat and chest.
Today while still at work, and having now a box trailer with ryvita crackers… I’m noticing chest pain and pain in my lower back when I breathe in heavy. I’m fine with light breaths but deep ones hurt.
Is this normal all these kind of pains when first starting this kind of job after been sat on my arse playing PC for the past 4 months?
Or should I be worrying? I’ve had similar chest pains before and done multiple EKG over the years and nothing ever came up the docs say.
I’ve also been diagnosed with anxiety and depression and I don’t feel those things I don’t think right now, I take my meds, but yeah when shit goes wrong I tend to get a bit pissed off and start feeling a beating chest.
But it was never painful.
Please advise. Please don’t read the post and ignore it and go do something else. If you have 1 minute of your life please advise.
