I was picking up my last load before calling it quits and I was heading back to Chicago to drop off the load and return the truck. The load was 4 server racks on wheels heading for the recycling plant. I did a shitty job of strapping them in place and 1 hour in my trip on of the straps snaps. I hear a loud bang and immediately stop the truck. The load had a seal so I called my dispatch and then the broker to ask them what I should do. None of them were responding so I made the decision to break the seal and figure out what happened. One of the servers dropped damaging it in the process. I somehow lifted it up and strapped everything again. I told my dispatch tomorrow what happened and he told me that we should play dumb and see how they react at the recycling facility. Well they didn’t take it lightly that the seal was breached and ended up complaining to the broker. My boss called me and told me that I shouldn’t have broken the seal and that the insurance will most likely be activated which means that I’ll be paying my deductible of 2500usd. I was horrified, but started to accept the fact that I’m out of 2.5k. That was my last load and my last check was 2650usd that they told we they are going to withhold until they get the insurance claim. Fast forward 2 months where I text my boss periodically to see if insurance claim has arrived. He keeps telling still nothing and he’ll get back to me when it does. I end up calling the company from my BOL and I give them the load number asking if they can give me any info on a potential insurance claim. To my surprise they tell me that there was no insurance claim and that the load was paid in full 1 month after my delivery. At this point I’m fuming and I text my boss to call me when he’s free. He calls me and I tell him that I called the broker who told me there’s no insurance claim and I ask him when can I be expecting my money? He tells me he wasn’t aware of the situation and that he closed that company down and is working from a different MC at the moment. He tells me he’ll look into it and call me back, but he also tells me that that broker didn’t want to do business with them after I broke the seal and that he will have to check what sort of penalty I should get for that. Of course he didn’t call me back and now is not answering my calls. What are by options here. Any advice is greatly appreciated. This is life changing money for me at the moment
