I happened to pass all the tests in orientation for this company that promised a me things, and the reality did not live up to expectations.
This company had me come all the way to Dallas, for this three-day orientation.
During orientation, we learn as a group:
There’s no Yard Move option.
There’s no Personal Conveyance option.
The trucks have the airbag dump disabled.
The trucks have the fifth wheel welded in the middle position.
The trucks are equipped with Driver Assist that keeps you at 6 second following distance, with a tattle tale.
The trucks are governed at 65.
All trailers had Super Singles.
There were other things, too.
Making us buy $400 worth of gear that they didn’t even have in stock. Like a titanium Enforcer pad lock, they didn’t actually have to give to us.
They also had this “Fleet Manager” who was also our dispatcher, threaten us with disciplinary action if we fell under 400 miles a day.
I raised some concerns, but because of my financial situation, I stayed, rather than leave, like the smarter people in the room.
This is what happened to me yesterday.
They put me in this really bare-basic Freightliner without a refrigerator, even though they assured me I would be in a Peterbilt with a refrigerator.
They put me under a Walmart load going from Dallas to Kansas, and told me to pick up an empty, but to wait to hear from dispatch to pick up a specific empty.
…and I get a call from a rude Vice President who starts challenging my concerns that my recruiter lied to me.
He wants to know what my problems are…so I recited the list, that I listed above, and basically told him “I don’t really have time to talk right now, I have to go.”
Then I hung up on him.
They fired me 10 minutes later, saying I “don’t have respect for authority.”
And tell me to clean out the truck.
