This was my breakfast this morning; sausage, egg and cheddar on a croissant with orange juice from Arby’s. At first glance, it may seem like it’s nothing special, but I assure you there is much more to it than meets the eye.
I awoke this morning around 4 AM and upon doing so, I sent my adorable wife a good morning text as I normally do. I then got dressed, made my bed and sauntered inside so I could freshen up and grab some breakfast before starting down the road for Seagoville, TX.
I placed my order but when it came time to pay, I realized that I had grabbed my driver license and not my debit card. I apologized to the lady and requested she cancel my order.
I turned and began walking back to my truck when a voice from behind spoke up and said “no, that’s okay. Here, I will take care of it!”
It was a young black man in his mid to late 20s.
I spoke up and said “you don’t have to do that, man. It’s alright!”
“Nah,” he replied. “I gotchu.”
“Thanks, man!” I responded, as I fist bumped him.
He said “I was in Minden, Louisiana, the other day.”
I know where that is,” I replied. “There’s a small Cajun restaurant across the street from loves with some good food!”
“Yeah!” he exclaimed. “I was ordering food in that Love’s the other day and when I was about to place my order, the guy at the counter told me that I need to pick my money up off the ground. I had dropped a $10 bill and didn’t know it, and no one behind me said anything,” he continued.
“So I took my food out to the truck and then came back in and asked him if he had change for a $10 bill, because I was going to give him half of it. He didn’t want to open the drawer to make change but I told him it was only right that he should have half of it because if he hadn’t said anything, I would be out the whole $10.“
Standing there with a smile, I said “I really appreciate you doing that for me,” and fist bumped him again.
He said “you hungry, man. We gotta help each other out here on the road!”

As you can see after reading everything, I said, this is no ordinary breakfast croissant. This is a token of someone’s kindness, and not just anyone’s kindness but the kindness of a southern black man.
I mentioned that he is a black man for one reason – to put a lie to bed.
To hear the media tell it, America is as racist today as it was before the civil rights movement. Folks, that is a boldfaced lie. This is the second time over the past few months that a black man has purchased my meal.
Y’all be safe out there and don’t believe the media.
