So, I’ve been assigned a new tractor. It’s a 23 Volvo automatic daycab. I’m a local soft drink vendor and have been driving for over 5 years now. I had been in my old tractor, also a Volvo, for all that time, other than having to drive a different one for a day or 2 occasionally.
My last tractor handled like a dream, but I’ve noticed that my new one has a bit of an unstable feel to it over 60 or 65, Luke if I move the steering wheel more that an eight of an inch, it wants to drift to one side or the other. While I’m not the long time driver that some of the folks on here are, I’m not new, but this is almost giving me rookie nerves.
I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience with this? Is this one of those, “you’ll get used to it,” situations, or should I talk to a service tech about it? We lease from Penske if that matters.
Edit: Just wanted to thank everyone for your replies. Next time I get a chance I’ll ask the service department to check the steering play, if it can be adjusted, and try to get used to it for now. We’ve been slammed at work lately with the summer time rolling in and the 4th coming up.
