New to this industry…well to be clear I just became a licensed freight broker. I’m 35 years old and have had many failed and successful business ventures. I have a good family friend that is a watermelon farmer here in FL and hes been telling me for years to broker his loads. So I have a direct shipper. Which from other brokers and drivers i was told that I essentially have a golden ticket. I just spoke to him 2 days ago (March 12th) he told me to keep doing my research on the industry in general, learn the load board and find tried a true drivers.
Watermelons coming out of lake placid and Punta Gorda FL only traveling the eastern seaboard. 20 loads a day 7 days week starting mid May. Blue chet pallet crates stacked 2 high. 40k lbs. Dry box trailer. Like you all know the price per mile fluctuates and will have to wait till the season starts to know.
….I’m aiming for veteran truckers from the northeast looking to haul watermelons ???? back home when they’re down here looking at the boards for good pay to get back north. AGAIN I’m new to the industry but my friend said nothing pays better than produce for typical trailers. Also mentions of short runs once up north 100 150mile runs for high dollar a mile last season.
Bottom line is I am a new Broker and I have a direct shipper out of FL for watermelons. Waiting for season to know the factor.
I use reddit alot and figured I could get some good feed back explaining my plan/goal. I’m very appreciative for any advice and of course drivers that would be interested. Thank you
