Can anyone give me some info on a small issue I have?
I have been a class a driver since January of last year. I took a job for a company that is a sub contractor for amazon. I have been doing amazons regional runs for 14 months now. Since I have been working for them, I have been pulling two all nighters a week for over a year. It has effected my cognitive health, but now it has also effected my future of working anywhere else, and I will explain way.
I worked over night. Grave yard shift. This shift has slowly chipped away at my cognitive functions. I have a clean driving record. No accidents or anything of the sort; except a more recent “ inattentive “ driving violation. When I was driving one early morning, very tired. I accidentally drove past a weigh station. An officer pulled me over, I explained to him that I was just tired he asked about my drive time, I stated I still had time on my clock. He did an inspection, gave me some paperwork and I went on my way, so now I believe I have this violation because I drove past the weigh station. I know it’s essentially not an excuse, but to me. I feel I’m being over worked. I have not gotten a raise, I do not have decent health insurance, I do not get a Christmas bonus, or anything that a good company will do for its employees. I also feel that although my fault clearly….. I take full accountability cause I should of quit a long time ago ….. that this really is not fair, working 3rd shift 14 hours isn’t some walk in the park, at least not for me. I feel that, had I been getting appropriate amounts of sleep, this situation never would of occurred. Amazon also is constantly blaming us Driver’s for their fuck ups constantly……. Countless times I have shown up to my first stop on time, and Amazon would say I was late and my employer has to fight it with them. All of us who work here have nothing but negative things to say. ALL OF US, including my employer !
Now if I was working for my self no benefits, or raises, and or bonuses is understandable but I’m not. So now because of what this job has done to my cognitive abilities, I had one slip up, and now the job I want that was going to hire me, disqualified me. So now I’m wondering if I’m going to keep running into issues cause of this “ inattentive “ driving. Which I thought was texting or speeding which I do not do ! I don’t speed, follow to close, my lane changes are satisfactory. So needless to say I was confused. I still feel that someone should at least take into consideration…… amazons work environment ext ext ………but maybe I’m wrong idk.
Is there anyway I can fight this violation??? If so, how should I go about it ? Where do I go ? How do I approach this situation. Any help from an experienced truck driver would be greatly appreciated. I’m fairly new to this, and the only one who has choose this career in my group of friends and family. So I have no one to go to.
