So I’ve had hometime scheduled for about a month maybe a little bit less by a day or two with my dispatcher. Come time for hometime I get lectured on “you shouldn’t be scheduling hometime for fridays”. I barely make it to my hometime Friday night (technically I had the whole day scheduled for hometime). Once I make it to the truck stop closest to my home, I see on my qcomm that I was now being sent on a load and it needed to be delivered 12 hours away from where I live on the morning of the last day of my home time.
Call up dispatcher “hey you know I have hometime on that day, I can’t deliver it” and he says I need to deliver it. Mind you I didn’t even get the choice of denying the load. I go back and forth between him and it pretty much ends in him still saying I’m going to deliver it and me saying I’ll be on hometime.
I decide screw it, I have had plans for a month. I gave him plenty of notice, and I haven’t been home in a few months now. So I decide I’m going to do all of my hometime and deliver the load after.
Come today. The day that it was supposed to be delivered, and my final day of hometime. I wake up at around 9 (delivery time was 7 am), to 7 missed calls from my dispatcher. I haven’t answered the phone as I’m off work. I’m expecting to get back to my truck to an angry dispatcher on the phone.
What would y’all do here? I’ve been out for quite some time now without any hometime. I’m somewhat scared of losing my job, or maybe even them trying to get back at me saying I am holding the load hostage or something.
(TLDR: dispatcher schedule load delivery while on hometime despite ample warning for a month. Now getting tons of calls from him while on hometime)
