First of all, keep doing what you guys doing! I love seeing the posts from all over the place!
I do heavy haul (oilfield) and have been for about 16 years now. Got my CDL when I was 19 and since then I’ve had a great safe driving record. I’m no super trucker but I try to be safe and that’s all I care about. However, I will admit I am a total worm when it comes to transmissions.
Today, I was backing my dolly into my coil tubing unit, went to engage PTO and it took me about three different tries to get it to grab gear. This is uncommon however I went on days off for a week and in that time the other crew drove it. So I thought “no big deal”. But I get about 5 miles down the road and try to split to my high half gear and it won’t catch. Same thing in 8th (18 speed). I then try to gear down to come to a stop sign and it seemed to mesh just fine down shifting. Go to take off in granny (this load is about 235,000lbs) and I do so just fine but 1st won’t catch at all. I clutch out and back in 3 different times before it finally meshes. What do you guys think is up? What do you think happened? Any advice is welcome as I’m on the side of the road waiting on another tractor.
