Recently I was involved in an accident that led to a total loss of the vehicle that hit my trailer according to what my company’s insurance team has told me. No one was hospitalized from incident from what the officer told me but the vehicle was towed away.
I was attempting a lane change to avoid collision with another truck coming onto the highway and my trailer ran another car off the road, either they sped up to try and beat me or were behind me and tried to go around around mid lane change because I honestly didn’t see them when I checked my mirrors but I’m going to for sure be at the mercy of the court either way because they still had the right of way hind sight I should have just held on for deer life and hoped the other truck hit his breaks because it’d have been their fault if we hit anyway.
The attorney office I called informed me that the court this citation went to is extremely low tolerance on CDL citations of the two courts in that area so now I’m poised to make the decision on if I’m going to pay their retainer fee of 1k or just take the hit because I can’t reasonably defend not being at fault, right of way is pretty clear cut and dry.
Either way I’m wondering how this is going to impact me in the future. The company I drive for isn’t going to let me go I already went through their post accident hoops but I was already planning to start looking for local jobs recently I was going on 4 years clean driving before this so this stings a lot.
