I’m just starting in my research of being a truck driver. This may seem oversimplified and if it is then I’d appreciate any comments for things I need to consider.
Are there drivers out there that just put the money they make into the truck, and maybe have a place outside of that that they occasionally stay at? What I mean is, are there drivers that put a majority of their earnings into the their truck and travel the road, but maybe pay rent for a place they only occasionally use for a break.
I have no family, no relationships. Was just thinking of buying an old truck (found a nice 1980 FLC), that I’d spend a majority of my money towards making a really nice home, but also maybe just having a rental on the side that I’d use when I’d want a small weekend off or something.
I’d be on the road just to put most the money towards restoring the truck to show condition, and every now and then spend time in an apartment when I want a break.
I’m not trying to make a fortune. I kinda already have accepted that I won’t have a family, even though I’m 32. So I was just thinking of driving. Maybe have a little base camp (apartment) when I want it.
Anyone do that?
Edit: I know this doesn’t really make any difference to the replies, just though I’d share the truck I’m looking at.
By restore I mean get it cleaned up, some accessories, stretch it a bit (not looking to go 300”). I just think I could live in this thing with a flatbed and be perfectly content with life.
