Let me preface this by mentioning that I run local, and am normally in a day cab (2018 International LT 625).
My regular truck is in the shop, and the trucking gods gave me a sleeper cab 2023 Freightliner Cascadia) as a loaner for the time being. Been in it since July 25th..
Thing is… This sleeper truck does NOT have an APU. I’m open to suggestions on how to be comfortable in the sleeper.
When I do have my gaps between my overnight deliveries, the grocery store docks I park at are usually in close proximity to a residential neighborhood, so I want to try to avoid running the engine, so as to not disturb the residents.
My usual strategy is to run the bunk A/C at full cold and full fan speed, keep the sleeper curtains closed while driving.
Then when I get to a store delivery where I have a 4-6 hour wait, I shut the engine off, dive into the bunk, and close the curtains quickly, to keep as much cold air in the bunk as I can.
If the inside of the truck warms up over time, due to outside temperatures, I’ll try to hold out as long as I can, but eventually I’ll run the engine for 10 minutes just to take the edge off and cool the sleeper again.
When I’m done my shift, and I park the truck for the day while I’m off, before I jump in the car to go home… I’ll leave the sleeper curtains open, close the windshield blinds, open the wing vent windows by the top bunk to let any heat vent out, and plug in the shore power to run my 12v electric Coleman cooler, and keep my drinks cold.
