Thank you for showing up, braving the storms, and keeping the world running at what is often your own expense – physically, mentally, and in some cases also financially.
My family is full of CDL operators, including my husband. My father has been trucking my whole life and currently does night runs from Shelby County to Kansas City every night. My husband puts on 300+ miles every day doing P&D around our corner of the state. I spend hours each day talking to both and hearing about the pains you all go through to get shit done.
There is such an exponential lack of empathy from the public when it comes to truckers. Someone is always complaining about truckers getting in the way, not giving a hoot about the drivers around them, and generally being a nuisance on the road. Paying no mind to how reality is the exact opposite. As my father has always said, “All it would take is one week of the truck force shutting down and society would collapse.”
So thank you for making sure our families can eat, put gas in our car (or even have a car!), and generally consume whatever it is we think we need to live comfortably. For every inconsiderate driver, know there are still at least a few of us out there who will hold up traffic to let you out, back up to let you in, stay far enough back for you to see us behind you, speed up so were not hanging at your side, and overall give you the space and consideration you need to drive safe and get home to YOUR life.
