Gonna try to keep this short. Today got stuck in traffic in wadesboro NC, they had the road shutdown and were diverting traffic down a side street. I have never been down this road before but I knew of it since I pass it often as I come back from lumberton. This road is not for big rigs since there is a 13’4″ bridge according to signs. Idk if there was a way around this bridge but i doubt it. Even though most of the trucks that were going that way, as the cops waved them on, were flat beds or otherwise low profile day cabs. I, with a 13’6″ trailer and high rise sleeper. Could not go this way. Once I saw they where everyonr was getting sent to, i rolled down my window, told the cop I cant make my truck into a convertable, I asked to get turned around to go back up 74. He had me go thru an empty parking just before the point you had no other choice but to send it. Got turned around and got out of there.
Lesson today is, you are responsible for the safety of your rig. Do not be afraid to tell a cop you cant fit. You’ll save yourself, the cops, and everyone else a headache. Also make sure for some companies that if you need to pull a U turn that u get a badge and name of an officer because some companies will fire you on the spot otherwise. Check with your company policies. Sorry, not that short i guess.
(TL; DR: Traffic diverted down road with low bridge, got the hell out of there by telling cop I wont fit.)
Just a pro tip.
