After 3 and a half years on the road with no incidents, today I was in my first accident. All of a sudden, it went from sunny and nice to a light snowfall on top of a hill. Started slowing down but didn’t have too much time to react before an accident a few cars ahead caused the truck ahead of me to slam on the breaks. I wasn’t following close but wish I had slowed down faster, even though the roads looked clean as a bone the second I even tapped the brakes she started sliding. Trying to avoid to pedestrians on the shoulder from the other accident I swerved into the back of a car carrier, it ripped a hole in the side of the truck and I went for the ditch.
Kept her upright but there is no way that truck is going back on the road without major work. There were no fatalities or injuries and the other truck had one of the cars hood smashed and lost a light but was otherwise okay. The police didn’t give me any tickets and said he wasn’t considering me at fault because of all the conditions involved. My company disagrees, and they are deciding if they want to keep me. Kind of scared this is it for me.
