Is it worth it to become a trucker in Canada?

Hey all. I’m 26, unmarried, clean driving record and getting out of the armed forces after 8 years. Looking for a new career. I’ve fantasized for a long time about OTR trucking. I have some experience driving trucks in the army that I could embellish but my main concern is that I’ve heard anecdotes that nobody is hiring drivers without years of tractor experience, or paying them basically slave wages in the beginning. Based on what you’ve seen in the industry, what advice would you give me? Which companies pay fair wages? And is there a specific region in Canada with better opportunities? I’m flexible. Cheers.
