I really do not need other truckers to flash their high beams at me to let me know it’s safe to get over after passing them. I understand you’re trying to help, but most of the time it’s unnecessary and I’m fully aware of where my equipment is.
It’s one thing when it’s the middle of the day, or in extremely congested area, but when it’s pitch black at 2 am and you’re the only other vehicle on the road for MILES!?! First off, learn where your marker interrupters are, or flash your headlights on and off. Most trucks (like mine) have a button, lever, knob etc. to kill the headlights for a second. THIS IS SUFFICIENT!
Secondly, it’s the middle of the night, you’re the only other vehicle on the road, I don’t need you to hold my hand or tell me how to drive or when it’s acceptable TO YOU for me to get over. And here’s the kicker, I HAVE AN ASTIGMATISM! STOP BLINDING ME BY FLASHING YOUR BRIGHTS AT ME BY DOING YOUR BEST IMPRESSION OF A STROBE LIGHT! We’re driving on the highway, not setting up for a discotheque.
It’s completely unnecessary. I don’t care if it’s a “courteous gesture” or not. There’s several other ways to communicate that it’s safe for me to get over in front of you without burning my retinas out of my eyes. I’m sure plenty of you will say I’m an asshole, but to me it’s the other way around.
