Hey all. I was rear ended today by a box truck while making a right turn on Long Island, NY. Long story short i put my right blinker on and slid halfway into the left lane to clear the turn on my right. Driver behind me was probably just being impatient or didnt realize what i was doing and tried to speed past on my right. He was going too fast to stop and hit me just above my rear axle on the trailer, puncturing the tire. Other than that my truck was fine. His front end was severely damaged. When the police officer showed up he could pretty much tell what happened but i showed him my dashcam anyway. I didnt get any tickets but he gave me a copy of how to obtain my police report when its ready. He said it takes two weeks to be made available. On top of this form it says i need to self-report to NY DMV any accident with more than $1,000 in damage. Any other drivers or residents of NY have to do this? I have no problem doing this as the accident wasnt my fault but I am a resident of NJ. Also how will this affect future job searches if I ever left my company? Will the accident always pop up regardless of whether i was at fault? Anyone ever have to deal with a situation like this before while looking for a new job? Its my first reportable accident in my life let alone my ten years in trucking. Thanks in advance, everyone.
