Hello all, kind of a rant today as I found out some news from a good buddy of mine.
Been wanting to get my CDL for a long time now, never had the chance or time. Well my buddy went through Swift acadamy, told me it was great, and we talked about teams and how he was told about Dedicated routes. We’ll I decided to join and was thinking finally can do something I love and I’ll be with a friend. He told me, as well as the recruiter told me, dedicated teams will have a certain amount of loads a week and we would be home every other night and we will have weekends. We’re thinking great! We both have kids and married, we will be able to make decent money and be able to spend time with our families.
That being said, he is on his own ATM he finished his mentorship and I take my CDL test next week and will start my mentorship. He comes to me today pissed off, he tells me his Driver leader told him that ..no.. we will not have weekends, we both will still be expected to do 70s, and that we might be home for 8 hours every two weeks. Even though we both explicitly told them Dedicated.
How do recruiters AND instructors get away with lying like this? We both agreed that sure if we both were single and had no kids, OTR teams would be the way to go. Have any the family oriented guys here had this issue? If so how did you handle it?
