I was pulling out of a truck stop today, trying to turn left. It’s a busy road…. There should probably be a traffic light here, but there’s not. A river of traffic is pouring in from the left, so I wait patiently.
At least 3 blocks away, I notice a 2-legger is meandering down the street. No problem, I should be long gone before he even comes near.
Here comes a break in traffic–Nope. A car just whipped out of a side street. Now, traffic has arrived from the right. Finally, here comes my lucky break. But wait! That damned 2-legger has timed it just perfectly, stepping down off the curb, just as traffic clears. Now, even if I “gun it,” I would be too late. I know pedestrians have the right of way, but dammit, they are out of rhythm with the universe.
