So, I decided I was tired of working in an Amazon warehouse, unloading trailers, and driving cages across the warehouse. It’s been 3 and a half years since I was hired there. Before I worked at Amazon, I was in college. Told my dad, who used to drive trucks (8 years of experience), that I was done. He suggested that I apply to do a team with him, Swift team was a very enticing offer, despite their crashing reputation. He recently left his other job, we sat on it, and we decided to become a team; I digress. I don’t need to write an entire novel and a sequel about my life. I applied, he did too. I got a call a week later. Went over and I listed everything they needed to know. I don’t do drugs, smoke, or drink. I have been driving since 2015. The only thing I can think about was when I was a poor college student and had to go without insurance for a couple of weeks; I was nailed a day before I could afford it. It was about .25 miles to my place, cop followed me for no reason. I didn’t speed or look shady. I went to get a cone from McDonald’s. I went to court soon after with my new insurance, and the judge knocked a good chunk off. Otherwise, that’s it, clean. They said it was fine and continued the process. Everything was good to go; I did all the paperwork they asked for through “Driverpulse.” They send me the academy packet, and they send me the academy offer letter. I get led into believing this is a done deal by my recruiter. I went through the permit test and passed the A-Class knowledge, airbrakes, and combination with flying colors. I passed my DOT physical, did a urine and hair test, and got my medical card. I got a call a day later from my recruiter, who has been “away” in another state, and he told me that my application was denied and they’re going with more qualified candidates. My dad had no problem; they wanted him to still come. I was supposed to leave on the 29th for the academy. Two days before I’m ready to go. As I said, I don’t do drugs, never had, and never will. I’ve been around my friends who have done weed (I’m in Oregon), and I don’t believe I was exposed long enough. I’m pissed and disappointed; I don’t know if my recruiter was lazy and being away didn’t help, or I’m underqualified for “Swift,” which hurts more. I can only think of if they found something on my urine or hair test. I wish I knew if the reason they gave me was a valid reason. I worked for Amazon and know not everything managers or OPs managers say is the total truth. ***I’d like the wisdom of truckers who have gone through this, or know what to tell me***. After my disappointment, applied for “pumpkin trucks” Schneider National, and they got back to me within an hour of me putting my application. Hopefully that works outs
