I approached my company truck, ready to get in after my shower and raised my key to the door to unlock it. With a twist to the left on the lock and a simple pull of the handle I was inside my truck. I started climbing the truck steps to get in when a man started yelling and it absolutely caught me off guard. I could only think “what the fuck is this guy doing inside my truck,” and as he looked at me with a face so certain that I was intruding I actually backed off yet saw my company’s name and USDOT on the door. I looked to the left to where my truck number should’ve been and almost retreated back to the door to confront “my intruder,” when I realized my truck number was off by the last two digits. I said “Oh shit I’m so sorry man,” and shut the door. I hesitated walking alway because I was still confused by the whole situation that I had to take another look at the unit numbers, his truck number was off from mine by 60. I looked around the parking lot to see where my truck could’ve been but I didn’t see it instantly as the company I work for specializes in tankers. I thought I was losing my mind but found my truck which had two dry vans to its side. I walked down about 6 trucks to where my truck actually was and got in.
Not a useful post but I thought I’d share this story. I also wanted to ask: how can one prevent a fellow coworker from accidentally or purposefully entering their truck if they have the same set of keys? I’ve seen the seatbelt method but is there any aside from that?
