Working a local gig.
Start my shift by going to the yard to pick up an empty trailer. No luck. Go to the shipper to see if they have any empties in their doors. I see one in a door, so I park the truck and make my way inside to see if it’s empty. As I’m walking inside, another driver asks what I’m doing.
Me: “Im going inside to see if that trailer in 34 is empty”.
Douchebag: “I was here first, and I was about to go ask them the same thing.”
Me: “What are you even talking about. I literally saw you pull in after I did.”
Douchebag: “Nah man. I was here first”.
Me. 😑. “Go check the other side. My run leaves in 30 min, I have to take this trailer.”
I go inside to check and he gets back in his truck. There’s still a few pallets on the trailer, and I ask shipper if they can off load so I can take it. They say no problem.
Enter Douchebag.
Douchebag: “Ahh yeah I’m actually already hooked up to that trailer. You’re gonna have to go find another” all with a smug look on his face.
I held my tongue, though I was fuming. I went to the other side like I suggested he do, and found a 48′ and took it(usually supposed to take 53′).
Karma incoming.
Make my way to the customer after loading up. Been to the customer many times. It’s a tight blindsided back, but once you know the setup it’s pretty damn easy, and today even more so since I had to take a 48. I arrive and what do I see? A driver absolutely butchering the back. Wasn’t remotely close to setting up how he should. He tried to force a sight side back that was impossible. He gets out of the truck when he sees me arrive, and walks towards me.
And look who it is, if it isn’t Mr. Douchebag himself. Dude is mid fifties, probably been driving longer than I’ve been alive. I’m only 26. I could see the pain on his face when he realized it was me, and he needed the aid of the young driver he fucked over.
Me: Hahahaha ya struggling there Driver? This back can be tricky for fresh CDL drivers. Ya know, if you didn’t steal that 53′ you wouldve gotten my 48′ here and had a much easier time!
Douchebag: …. Can you show me how to do the back.
Me: Not a problem, always happy to help the newbies 😌.
He moves outta the way, and I do the setup and back it in blindside with no pullups. He sped out and left without saying anything. He didn’t even offload any of the freight that he came to deliver, he just noped out.
Don’t fuck over your fellow drivers. I would have offered to back the truck for him if he hadn’t been a complete tool this morning, and I wouldn’t have been the least bit patronizing about it.
