A little about us. I (53m) have been driving OTR for 11 years, my wife (53f) has been driving 5 all of hers team with me. I love driving and to me it’s not work, to her she tolerates it because the money is great. We currently drive full team 5-6k miles a week, and usually have day and a half off most weeks to get in a restart, do laundry and grocery shop. We are company drivers, drive the truck like we own it but with bosses cards for maintenance and fuel. We are also 1099 and paid a percentage of revenue (41%) Up until recently we picked our own loads, no forced dispatch, run when we want sit when we want if someplace cool or near family.

That all changed when my wife had an issue because of a CBD cream she was using for arthritis. As you can guess she failed a random. Our boss was very cool about it and changed the carrier we were leased on with. She has undergone the classes and everything and has her license back and able to drive but still has 8 months of almost monthly drug tests to do before she is fully cleared. But the company we pull for now is much less ideal. Too much to get into here but we are ready to leave after just 4 months

We are less than thrilled with new situation and wanting to become standard company drivers for a smallish company <100 trucks.

My questions.
1. How much trouble is she going to have making a change, or should we just suck it up till the year is over?

2. Is it reasonable to want 2 months out and then come home for a week. And have her only driving part time team, basically I drive my 10-11 hrs and her do 5-6 a day? We also would like the winter months for her to be able to just be a passenger, she has never gotten over her nerves of snow and ice.

Pay is less important then the above items with benefits playing a big part also. We know she screwed up with the cbd we get that no need to remind us but just looking for the best way to move forward.
